Johanna Hanefeld
Johanna Hanefeld is an Associate Professor in Health Policy and Systems’ Research at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Johanna’s research includes a focus on medical travel and migration.
About: I am head of the Anthropology, Politics and Policy Group in the Department of Global Health and Development, and an Associate Professor in Health Policy and Systems’ Research. My work is situated within the field of health policy and systems research and focuses on the political economy of global health. Current research focuses on health systems and medical travel and migration, policy analysis of evidence to policy uptake, trade and health, governance and health inequalities. I am interested in actor power and health policy analysis. My background is diverse: a policy analyst by training, I worked on HIV and AIDS, initially for the Panos Institute based in Zambia and then as researcher for Amnesty International. I have also worked for WHO EURO on social determinants of health and health equity, and on national health policies.
